No rest for the wicked when your travel companion has an ADHD head. So early Monday morning, we took the FlixBus back to the airport, where we were going to rent a car.

After picking up our Lynk & Co, our first stop was Sigtuna. The car rental guy recommended we visit the coffee shop Tant Bruns Kaffestuga. It all looked very charming — until we saw the prices: almost six euros for a cup of tea! Wow. No tea for me; a glass of water would have to do.

Sigtuna is the oldest town in Sweden and still has many remnants from the Viking era. After visiting Tant Bruns, we strolled through the town at our leisure in the beautiful autumn sunshine. Every time I see such an immense building — or what’s left of it — I’m amazed by the craftsmanship: those enormous chunks of stone! People literally built this with blood, sweat, and tears.

After this stop, we had a long drive ahead — about four hours to our next accommodation in Sunne, where we were welcomed by our host from Belarus. While my travel companion was busy chatting with her in Russian, she threw a few words of Swedish my way. Girl, I don’t understand a word of either language, so I pulled out my phone and started texting my kids — in Dutch, of course.
