After spending the night in bunk beds, it was time to move on. My travel companion was eager to drive to Gothenburg. Me? Not so much. After the hectic year I’d had, I just wanted peace and quiet. It took some persuading, but I finally got what I wanted: a cabin in the woods. We set off under blue skies, but the weather soon turned to rain and gray clouds.

The closer we got to the cabin, the narrower the road became, until we finally reached a small country lane. I couldn’t believe my eyes — this was perfect. A cabin in the middle of the woods: no cars, planes, scooters, or shouting neighbors. Just the wind and the occasional bird.

We stayed two nights in this wonderful house, where I easily could have stayed for another month. But duty called, and on Thursday morning we packed everything up for the five-hour drive back to the airport. While I received panicked messages all day about the terrible Storm Benjamin, our pilot calmly told us we were only slightly delayed due to a “breeze” in the Netherlands. The flight home wasn’t nearly as dramatic as we’d anticipated — and the landing was perfect.

Sadly, the Sweden adventure was over.
Will I ever actually buy a house here? Who knows — it could still go either way.
